Action Item is an adaptive trace rifle, which are rated B-Tier for endgame PvE by @TheAegisRelic tiering spreadsheet https://linktr.ee/TheAegisRelic being useful for shooting objectives and keeping special, with a decent add clear score as well. The frame intrinsic offers no bonuses beyond "being well-rounded and reliable" as per the https://www.destiny2.science/ Destiny Data Compendium. By comparison with its peers, the stats are decent - you can see at https://d2foundry.gg/w/437854390 how the weapon stats impact in-game performance. Stability is a bit low, so to help keep hitting crits, use the barrel perk to help out or, if you're able to control the beam, spec into Handling. Use the battery perk to boost the battery capacity or reload. For tackling tougher Minor, and Elite adds, in the first trait perk column you can use Demolitionist to generates chunk grenade ability energy on kills to use for an instant battery refill on grenade use, or Rewind Rounds to refill 60% of hits landed (70% when enhanced) from reserves when the magazine empties, or finally Envious Assassin to overflow the battery to up to ×3 capacity at 10% of mag size per kill with primary weapons and 20% with heavy (12.5%/22.5% enhanced) before readying. Then, in the second, you can use your increased battery capacity to maintain uptime on Killing Tally, which gains a stack for each enemy killed up to ×3 to boost damage by up to ×1.3 until you reload or stow. There's the choice of two origin traits - Nail, Meet Hammer grants ×1.08 damage against shields, and an additional 8% Heavy Ammo progress when initially breaking the shield. Alternatively, Omolon Fluid Dynamics boosts Stability by up to +20 and Reload Speed by up to +30 in the top half of the battery, decreasing linearly until it's at 50%. Recommended MW: Stability or Handling, with your preferred choice of mod to boost weapon stats, ammo generation, or elemental pickups for builds - and don't forget to check any available seasonal fragile mods.

Stability is a bit low, so to help keep hitting crits, use the barrel perk to help out or, if you're able to control the beam, spec into Handling. Use the battery perk to boost the battery capacity or reload. For Stasis synergy, there's the trait perk combination of Rimestealer which generates a stack (2 stacks when enhanced) of Stasis Frost Armor on shattering a Stasis crystal or killing a frozen enemy and Crystalline Corpsebloom that procs on a kill to provide a 4s buff - kills with the buff active generate a Stasis seeker which travels 3m before spawning a medium Stasis crystal (large when enhanced), or Headstone which generates a Stasis crystal on a crit kill. The crystals are weapon-generated entities so can inherit damage buffs, and proc weapon traits and subclass fragments when shattered for AoE damage. There's the choice of two origin traits - Nail, Meet Hammer grants ×1.08 damage against shields, and an additional 8% Heavy Ammo progress when initially breaking the shield.
